New Year, New Timetable

So 2013 is upon us.........................

Happy New Year to you all first of all. I hope you all had a great time over the festive season and are thinking about getting back into your normal training routines. I think Monday 7th January sounds like a good time to me and will give me a chance to finish off all the chocolates and mince pies that are still in my house!

We have had a think over Christmas and have decided that the class timetable needed a bit of a shake up to keep things fresh and to allow for our ever expanding membership base. The point of Connect is to keep a great level of coaching for you all during every class so rather than just cram more people into each class we have added another nine classes to the timetable to allow class numbers to be kept down yet still allow all of you to get your training in for the week.

We have also added some different types of classes too to give you even more choice of what you can do at Connect and to keep us coaches on our toes by continuing to do training courses that will then provide you with the most up to date methods of coaching.

* We have added in a Connect Barbell Club session twice a week that will see us just focus on the strength side of things with the main weights exercises and different variations of reps, sets and methods to get your base level of strength going through the roof. Wendler, Westside barbell, Outlaw and others will be implemented into this lifting only session.

* We will also be putting on a CrossFit Endurance class as we know we have had a lot of interest from members about this who are training for half and full marathons and want a little more sprint work/cardio slant to their sessions. This may also interest and attract a few new members as we know how many runners there are in Brighton. (This will be on as soon as Coach Dave has completed the Endurance certification course.)

* To allow us to fit all these extra classes in we have had to shift the whole timetable forwards by half an hour. Meaning our first class is now 5.30pm and our last class 8.30pm. It is impossible to completely please everyone but i hope these times work for most of you.

* We have also made every weekday morning the same now with 9.30am and lunchtime classes everyday at your request. We have changed the time of the lunchtime classes from 1pm to the earlier time of 12pm so please take note of that.

* We are in the process of changing our Kids classes a little but these haven't been confirmed yet. We will keep you posted on news of this asap.

* And lastly our Saturdays have changed. We have added in a 9am class due to popular demand, kept the 10.30am and 11.30am classes but also added in an Open Gym from 12.30-2.30 to allow for that Saturday lay in but also to give you time to catch up on your training!

If you just want a quick look to see what's changed then take a look at the new timetable below.

The timetable can also be seen on our website here where a downloadable PDF version can also be had.

These changes will be implemented from Monday 7th January and I have now changed over the MindBody booking system. Some of you had already booked classes for the following few weeks so if you have you may need to go and re-book them with the new times. Check your schedule on your account page to see and ensure you are booked onto the ones you want.

So thats about it! Our first Intro Course of the month starts on Monday 7th January if you want to get down and join Connect. Just drop us a line or call if you do.

See you all soon...............

Bank Holiday Class Timetable Changes

With quite a few things going on over the coming Jubilee bank holiday weekend we have had to make a few changes to the class timetable. All of these changes are reflected on the MindBody booking system and you just book in as usual but i thought it good to outline them here.

Friday 1st June -     - 1pm and 6pm WOD classes cancelled. Morning as usual.

Saturday 2nd June  - Open Gym... 10-12pm
Sunday 3rd June     - Open Gym.... 10-12pm

Karen (my wife) has kindly said she will man (or woman!) the box for us whilst myself, Holly and George are up in Birmingham being judges for the Reebok CrossFit Championships. There will be no formal WOD classes but we will write a WOD up on the board and you can come down and do this as you please. Treat it as an open gym session and perhaps catch up on something you need to practice or work on. Karen is not a CrossFit coach so wont be able to offer any lifting advice although she has trained a little herself so might be able to help with the basic movements.

Monday 4th June - Closed

Tuesday 5th June - 7am - WOD class
                                8-10am - Open Gym
                                Evening classes all the same.

So Tuesday is all the same with the addition of an Open Gym session between 8-10am as most of you will be off work and we wanted to give you the option of coming down earlier in the day.

Sorry to be a pain and have so many changes but we were asked to participate in the Reebok Championships and thought it would be a good opportunity for us and the box to network and meet others from the CrossFit hierachy.

If you have any questions, just shout and I will put the times up on the board at the box too.

Cheers evereyone.

CrossFit Ladies Class

One of the new things we have added to our sexy new timetable shake-up is a Ladies only class on Tuesdays at 7pm. We felt that it would be nice to offer a class in the evenings to some of our female members who don't necessarily want to be all out firebreathers, handstand press upping and throwing 100kg around like it was driftwood! (Although i know we have a few that fit right into that category too!)

We have already got two 9.30am classes on a Wednesday and Friday that cater primarily to mums who have dropped their kids off to school but we thought an option of an evening class would be good too.

Last night was our first class and there was a good turn out. It seems that they may well prove to be popular.

First up was our focus on Deadlifts and it was 5 sets of 5 reps. Four of the class reaching new personal bests at this rep range. (We religiously get our members to track their workouts so they can see exactly how it is that they are getting stronger and fitter. As a motivational tool, nothing works better!)

For the WOD (a CrossFit acronym for Workout Of The Day) they partnered up and in pairs with 15 minutes on the clock completed:

50 x push press (15/20/30kg)
50 x sit ups
50 x kettlebell swings
50 x press ups

After this and in the remaining time it was as many rounds as possible (AMRAP) of:

100m Run
15 x burpees.

The reps and rounds could be split up in anyway the pair decided as long as they got them all done.

Its great to team up for WODs at the box as you really feel you have to give it your best effort because of your partner! There is no slacking off! :)

Everyone did really well and felt as though they had certainly worked hard by the time they had finished. Although the main workout only lasted 15 minutes, the intensity and movements you do with CrossFit get you fitter and stronger than other workouts that may last an hour.

Well done to Jane and her daughter Lottie who came out on top with the most rounds.

The lovely thigh stretch against the wall to finish.
If you would like more information on CrossFit and why so many people worldwide are seeing such great changes in fitness and strength then take a look at our website here.

CrossFit Connect is going from strength to strength (excuse the pun) as more people get to hear about us and realise that we aren't just another gym. We provide professional individual coaching and guidance every single session at a cost that is less than most regular gyms. Throw into the mix advice on eating right and Paleo nutrition from our own in-house Paleo chef and you really do get the complete package. (Results from our last few Paleo challenges can be seen on this here on this blog or with a quick search).

There is a great blog that can be read here - Raising The Bar - about women in CrossFit and what it means to start lifting weights and doing pull ups and other such things that women traditionally stay away from. It really is a good read. You will change your perception of what you should be doing to get strong and healthy and surprise yourself too at just what you can achieve if you put your mind to it.

For any other questions drop us an email or give us a call using the info to the right. You can also have a quick look at what we get up to by watching our short video below.

New Timetable For May

Hey all

Please find below (and also on our website) the new timetable for May. As our membership base is growing we have added a few more classes into the mix. Notably the Monday lunchtime class and the Wednesday morning class for all you early birds!

I would also like to take this chance to thank all of the people that have been down and shown an interest in CrossFit Connect and to those that have joined up and become members and are making the classes so much fun. We are excited about all of the possibilities down at the box and despite only being open for 6 weeks we are already creating a fantastic environment for training, learning and progressing. A big big thank you from both myself and Holly.

Well, enjoy the Bank Holiday and hope to see some of you soon. Remember, there is an Intro Course running this Sunday 8th May for those that want to get started on their CrossFit journey or for any friends you have that might want to join up too.

Thanks, Dave

Intro courses

To get you started at CrossFit Connect we have two options for you:

1) Attend one of our free taster classes that run from 10am -11am on the first Sunday of every month. This class will be kept nice and simple but will still allow you to experience what CrossFit is all about and decide if its right for you.

2) Once you have done the taster class or if you know you want to get started with CrossFit straight away then we will book you onto one of our Intro courses. We hold these on the second and fourth Sunday of each month from 10am - 4pm. You will learn just why CrossFit is so damn good at getting people into the best shape of their lives through a short talk by one of our coaches and then its on to learning the nine foundational CrossFit movements. We keep things nice and simple and you get plenty of time to practice in the small group setting. You will get a great understanding of the movements that make CrossFit so effective and learn what we are looking for in your technique. And of course there is time for lunch by Hove Lagoon to let yourself recover!

*If for any reason you cant make the Sunday course we can arrange a private course with one of our coaches at another time that suits you. This consists of two one-hour personal training sessions.

After the Intro course has been completed you are then free to attend any of our Workout Of The Day (WOD) classes.

Prices for the courses are as follows:

Sunday Course (10am - 4pm)   - £80
Private Course (2 x 1 hours)      - £80

Course Times:

Sunday 27th March - Intro course (10am-4pm)
Sunday 3rd April     - Free Taster Session (10am-11am)
Sunday 10th April    - Intro course (10am - 4pm)
Sunday 24th April   - Intro course (10am - 4pm)

I look forward to seeing you at the box soon!

Opening Monday 14th March!

Hey all

We are opening our doors on Monday 14th March! We are obviously very excited about this and have some great plans for the next few weeks. First up is to get some people in through the doors and start bashing out some WODs with some local CrossFitters who have been training with us for a while. Then its straight into the Intro course (see below) to get new members up to speed on the 9 foundational CrossFit movements.

We are going to hold an official Opening Day on Saturday 26th March where we will give a talk on CrossFit and its benefits for any newcomers. We'll then have a series of fun workouts for all to take part in with competitions and perhaps the odd prize to be won. Details for this Open day will follow soon but get that date in your diary - Saturday 26th March.

Our initial class times have been posted up on our website and can be seen below. This is going to be a real growing period for us and the class times will be adaptable and we'll add in new classes as and when there is a need for them from our athletes. To start with we would prefer a few busy classes rather than a lot of half empty ones. We're building a great community at CrossFit Connect and banging out a hard workout with a great group of people that will only enhance this feeling! We are always open to suggestions so if you feel you want a class on at a certain time or on a certain day just let us know and we will do our best to sort it out for you.

Class Times

Monday                                                Tuesday
6.30-7.30pm      - WOD                         7am-8am           - WOD
7.30-8.30pm      - Intro Course

Wednesday
Thursday
9.30-10.30am    - WOD
1pm-2pm           - WOD
1pm-2pm           - WOD
6pm-7pm           - WOD
6.30-7.30pm      - WOD

Friday                                                    Saturday
7am-8am           - WOD
10am - 11am     - WOD
                                                             11am-12am        - Olympic Lifting Class
                                                             12pm-2pm          - Open Gym

We will also be opening up the box for a few more open gym sessions for you to practice at your own pace. Again, these will develop and appear as we get an idea of class structure and membership numbers.

IMPORTANT

If you are new to CrossFit you will need to book onto one of our Intro courses. These are run on the second and fourth Sundays of each month from 10am - 4pm and you will learn the fundamentals of CrossFit and gain all the knowledge you need to take part in the WOD (workout of the day) classes. Places are limited to 10 people per course.
If for some reason you cant make the Sunday courses an individual course can be arranged with one of our trainers that consists of two one-hour training sessions on a one-to-one basis. See our websites 'membership and class' page for more details.

Keep watching this page for news updates and dont forget to follow us on our Facebook page (http://tinyurl.com/5wz2sr8) or with Twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/CFConnect)

If you would like to book in for any classes next week just drop us a line at info@crossfitconnect.co.uk and state what class you would like to attend.

Thats it for now, i hope to see some of you on Monday!
