New Class Timetable for April

We have a new class timetable for April ready to go (as of this Friday).

We have put on a few more WOD classes at times that people have requested and also some more Open Gym Sessions for you to come down and practice at your own pace. We will still be around to offer advice but you can use this as a chance to catch up on a WOD that you have missed or to work on your weaker areas.

To see a full list of class times go to:

A timetable is also available at the box for you to keep.

See you soon!

A Great Day Was Had!

Thanks to everyone who came along to our Open Day last Saturday. We had a good turn out and i hope we managed to inspire a few more people to take an interest in CrossFit.

We had a good chat on the subject to start with and explained just why it is that myself and Holly (and an estimated 16,000 other people - and this is just the number that have aplied to enter the CrossFit Games this year!) hold the CrossFit training method in such high regard.

We then had a brave bunch of our existing members perform a WOD for the newcomers to watch and learn just exactly how a crossfit class operates. It cant have been easy giving it your all in front of a crowd of about 20 other people staring at you! (Well done guys, you did a great job!)

Some photos of the day:

We will be having another Open Day soon so keep an eye on the website or blog for more updates. In the meantime if you want to come down and check us out just give us a call or send us an email and we can arrange a time.

Open Day - Saturday 26th March

We have an open day coming up this Saturday at CrossFit Connect for those of you interested in learning more about who we are and what we do! It should be a fun day and we hope to answer some of the questions you may have for us. A plan for the day is laid out below although it may vary slightly depending on how many people come along:

11.00am -12.00pm -
CrossFit talk / Q&A
What is CrossFit and why is it so good?
The history of CrossFit and the CrossFit website
The backgrounds on the owners and instructors
The membership, prices and class times at CrossFit Connect
Intro course details
Nutrition - why CrossFit prescribes the Paleo lifestyle

12.00 - 12.30pm -
Workout Of The Day (WOD) class. A short WOD class with existing members for newcomers to watch. This is the main type of CrossFit class and you'll really get to see us in action!

12.30 - 1.30pm -
A short 15-20 minute taster WOD class for newcomers to participate in and get a feel for what CrossFit feels like in practice

After listening to the talk and asking any questions you may have we would encourage everyone to watch the main WOD class to see how we operate in a group environment and then have a little go at the taster class that follows. This class will be kept very simple and be scaled to everyones abilities but you should get an idea of how much you can work using basic equipment and certain techniques. You can work as much or as little as you like. Don't forget to bring your kit! We do have a small changing area and use of a shower if needed.

If you have any questions about the day please feel free to email or ring us and we would be only too happy to chat to you.

If you could pass on this invite to anyone you think might be interested in training with us it would be much appreciated. We hope to have a good crowd on Saturday. And lets hope the sun stays out!

See you soon

The First Week

So we have now been open for five days and the response we have had has been superb! Its been such a great week with getting the classes underway and talking to potential new members. We seem to be getting new enquiries every day from people who have heard about what we are building down here on the seafront.

We have had some great classes getting stuck into the CrossFit Connect 'House' WOD, trying out a version of the CrossFit Games Open workout and this morning bright and early at 7am getting some fun gymnastics practice in too.

We are set for a busy day on Saturday too with a WOD class, an olympic lifting class and an open gym session all happening 10am-2pm. Remember to get in touch first if you want to come along and check us out.

Thought i'd post up a few photos from this week:

We have also now registered as an official affiliate to host and judge any athlete entries into the CrossFit Games Open competition. If you want to take on the 14,000 other CrossFitters and see how you rank come down and be filmed!

Dont forget about our Official Open Day on Saturday 26th March and our first Intro course on Sunday 27th March. All details can be found either lower down on this blog page or on our website at www.crossfitconnect.co.uk

Happy training.

A Big Thank You!

A big thanks to everyone who turned up last night to check us out on our first night! It was so great to finally have people in the box working out, chatting and learning about CrossFit.

Well done to all the guys who completed, what i have to say was a pretty hard first WOD to christen the box! It has now become the official 'House' WOD and every member shall complete it when ready and have their time posted on the wall. This will then be the benchmark of your training! I did it this morning and its deceptively nasty!

CrossFit Connect House WOD:
9 rounds for time of:
9 x box jumps (24in)
9 x thrusters (20kg/40kg)
9 x burpees

We had a good few people turn up to find out more about us too and it was great to meet you all and tell you a bit more about what we do. I look forward to seeing you all again soon and get you started on your CrossFit journey.

Heres looking forward to the classes tomorrow (Wednesday 16th March)
9.30-10.30am
1-2pm
6.30-7.30pm

If you would like to join the class drop us an email using the address to the right or do the same if you would like more info on how to join up.

Cheers

The Opening Class

Looking forward to our first class at CrossFit Connect tonight! 6.30-7.30pm.

Time to decide on a suitable opening workout! :)

This has been a long time in the pipeline so Holly and I are both super excited about building the community of CrossFitters and turning new people onto the benefits and rewards of CrossFit.

Dont hesitate to get in touch if you want to find out what all the fuss is about!

Intro courses

To get you started at CrossFit Connect we have two options for you:

1) Attend one of our free taster classes that run from 10am -11am on the first Sunday of every month. This class will be kept nice and simple but will still allow you to experience what CrossFit is all about and decide if its right for you.

2) Once you have done the taster class or if you know you want to get started with CrossFit straight away then we will book you onto one of our Intro courses. We hold these on the second and fourth Sunday of each month from 10am - 4pm. You will learn just why CrossFit is so damn good at getting people into the best shape of their lives through a short talk by one of our coaches and then its on to learning the nine foundational CrossFit movements. We keep things nice and simple and you get plenty of time to practice in the small group setting. You will get a great understanding of the movements that make CrossFit so effective and learn what we are looking for in your technique. And of course there is time for lunch by Hove Lagoon to let yourself recover!

*If for any reason you cant make the Sunday course we can arrange a private course with one of our coaches at another time that suits you. This consists of two one-hour personal training sessions.

After the Intro course has been completed you are then free to attend any of our Workout Of The Day (WOD) classes.

Prices for the courses are as follows:

Sunday Course (10am - 4pm)   - £80
Private Course (2 x 1 hours)      - £80

Course Times:

Sunday 27th March - Intro course (10am-4pm)
Sunday 3rd April     - Free Taster Session (10am-11am)
Sunday 10th April    - Intro course (10am - 4pm)
Sunday 24th April   - Intro course (10am - 4pm)

I look forward to seeing you at the box soon!

Opening Monday 14th March!

Hey all

We are opening our doors on Monday 14th March! We are obviously very excited about this and have some great plans for the next few weeks. First up is to get some people in through the doors and start bashing out some WODs with some local CrossFitters who have been training with us for a while. Then its straight into the Intro course (see below) to get new members up to speed on the 9 foundational CrossFit movements.

We are going to hold an official Opening Day on Saturday 26th March where we will give a talk on CrossFit and its benefits for any newcomers. We'll then have a series of fun workouts for all to take part in with competitions and perhaps the odd prize to be won. Details for this Open day will follow soon but get that date in your diary - Saturday 26th March.

Our initial class times have been posted up on our website and can be seen below. This is going to be a real growing period for us and the class times will be adaptable and we'll add in new classes as and when there is a need for them from our athletes. To start with we would prefer a few busy classes rather than a lot of half empty ones. We're building a great community at CrossFit Connect and banging out a hard workout with a great group of people that will only enhance this feeling! We are always open to suggestions so if you feel you want a class on at a certain time or on a certain day just let us know and we will do our best to sort it out for you.

IMPORTANT

If you are new to CrossFit you will need to book onto one of our Intro courses. These are run on the second and fourth Sundays of each month from 10am - 4pm and you will learn the fundamentals of CrossFit and gain all the knowledge you need to take part in the WOD (workout of the day) classes. Places are limited to 10 people per course.
If for some reason you cant make the Sunday courses an individual course can be arranged with one of our trainers that consists of two one-hour training sessions on a one-to-one basis. See our websites 'membership and class' page for more details.

Keep watching this page for news updates and dont forget to follow us on our Facebook page (http://tinyurl.com/5wz2sr8) or with Twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/CFConnect)

Website Goes Live!

Just to say our full website is now live at www.crossfitconnect.co.uk

Take a look and learn more about us and our plans for the box, classes, membership prices etc.

We are continuing to get equipment delivered and set up and our pull up rig should be with us soon. It all takes longer than you think but we're getting there.

Some other news is that we will be working with Ash from Brighton Active magazine for the next issue. He is doing great things with a really cool publication and is looking forward to having us in issue #2. Pick up a copy of issue #1 from Queens Road (near Brighton Station) outside The Fitness Shop or many of the coffee shops and gyms in and around Brighton and Hove.

We are still working towards a mid-March weekend opening. Cant wait!
